Medical Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points along the skin of the body involving thin needles. Traditional acupuncture involves needle insertion, moxibustion, and cupping therapy. It is a form of complementary and alternative medicine and a key component of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). According to TCM, stimulating specific acupuncture points corrects imbalances in the flow of qi (pronounced "chi") through channels known as meridians. Acupuncture aims to treat a range of conditions, though is most commonly used for pain relief.

Medical acupuncture is the integrative application of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern medicine principles in evaluation and treatment of all medical conditions.  This integrative approach brings about a very unique approach to the treatment of all medical conditions from a perspective that is unique from either approach alone.   Dr. Mokari blends both philosophies and bodies of knowledge in all of his patient evaluations.  Additionally, for patients who would benefit from acupuncture, he integrates traditional medical concepts in the diagnosis and treatment plan that ultimately determines the specific acupuncture points used.

Cupping is a technique where various types of cupping devices create a suction where they are placed on the skin.  There are various techniques and philosophies that have adopted cupping methods, however, the original use is believed to have a basis in Traditional Chinese Medicine.  Cupping is a technique that, when appropriately used, can be and adjunct or an alternative to acupuncture needle treatment.  Dr. Mokari is trained in the use of cupping and uses cupping in treatment when appropriate.

Dr. Mokari often combines, when appropriate, medical acupuncture and osteopathic manipulation therapy to achieve a synergy in treating headaches, neck and back pain, sports medicine injuries and musculoskeletal conditions.
